Fred's Place Attends Coast Guard CW Operators Association's 2008 Annual Meeting in Mobile Alabama

I joined about a bunch of "old" Radiomen attending The Coast Guard CW Operators Association's 2008 Annual Meeting in Mobile, Alabama from September 17th through the 21st. Many of our members had to cancel at the last minute due to hurricanes and high fuel prices but for those that did make it, ah, the echoes of ditty dah dits and sea stories flooded the city as the ZUTTERS and their XYLs gathered here and there. When not hanging out in the meeting room, we roamed the area and visited the USS Alabama Memorial Park, the Vibroplex Company, Bellingrath Gardens, WLO Commercial Radio Station, and Mobile Greyhound Park.

For those of you that were not fortunate enough to be a Coast Guard Radioman in the days of Morse Code (ditty dah dits), let me explain some terminology, ZUT is the fraternal order of Coast Guard CW Operators - Zeta Upsilon Tau. We call ourselves, ZUTTTERS, Brass Pounders or anything else except late for watch. XYLs are our spouses, it's an abbreviation for Ex-Young Lady. You have to remember we formed our fraternal order long before Political Correctness so you won't find any 'significant others' being mentioned here.

A Very Special "Thank You". Jack and Diane Beth did an outstanding job organizing, scheduling and hosting our 2008 meeting. Thanks Jack & Diane!
