He was actually assigned to the Tenth Amphibious Beach Battalion and attached to the Queens. He was also in Boot Camp at Great Lakes during March 1944. I was on the USS Chesterfield County LST 551, did a tour in Vietnam. Traveled all the way from Norfolk, Virginia. It was a long and rolling ride. Through the Panama Canel then across the Pacific for afew stops for voyage repairs. Dumped many a meal going down the ladder from the chow line to the messdeck. It was one of those living history lessons. After 7 years at sea, I joined the Coast Guard as an EM2. I loved my time in the Navy and Coast Guard, many memories.
