at the station during renovation. Although he was an amazing dog and is remembered for doing some
truly unbelievable things, some will remember him retrieving the then OINC's son, by his lifejacket,
who was pulled out of the slip by the current at the then new beach by housing. He would get Oscar
(yes that 180 lb dummy) your smokes, hammer, log for the fire and find that Seaman (By Name) hiding
somewhere on the station, hoping to get out of work. He was truly amazing. He was born in Charlevoix
Mi, on June 26,1989 and passed over the bar January 25, 2003. His units included the USCGC
Mesquite, Sta. Oswego, SARDET A-Bay and Sta. Saginaw River. He was my best friend…. On 01/12/03 Jon brown

said: Those of you that were stationed at the Saginaw River Range Rear Light and Rescue Station
(and the various names it was known under) know it was on a small square of land on the west bank of
the Saginaw River entirely surrounded by Dow Chemical Company property in Bangor Township of Bay
County, Michigan. In 1989, that small square of property the Lighthouse was sold to the Dow
Chemical. I am a member and a researcher of the Saginaw River Marine Historical Society. Our
volunteer group is restoring the Saginaw River Rear Range Lighthouse with funding from it's owner,
Dow Chemical. I am looking for photos, newspaper clippings, and stories of the routine things as
well as the special times you remember, that can be used in a museum we will have inside the
Lighthouse. A little bit of background... The original Light in this area was the 'Saginaw Bay
Lighthouse' (also spelled 'Sagana' or 'Saganaw'). It was built in 1841. The 'Saginaw River Range
Lights (Front and Rear)' were built starting in May 1876 and lit on September 15, 1876. The 'Saginaw
Bay Lighthouse' was demolished in 1876, after the Range Lights began operating. The Saginaw River
Rear Range Lighthouse served as a U.S. Coast Guard Light-Rescue Station from 1939-1980. I have not
yet found the date the structure of the Saginaw River Front Range Light was removed and what was
done with it. Does anyone have any information about this? Thanks for taking the time to read this.
Any assistance you can provide will be appreciated.

4years of active in Cleveland HBR Sta and the CGC Kaw). BMC Red Fuller was OIC. We had our own
resverve section and took over on our drill weekend from the regulars. I was put on 30 days extra
orders to train up the boat cox'ns when the new 41 footer came in. I think it was the 41466. there
were no qualified 41 footer cox'ns at the station at the time. I got out of the reserves after BMC
Fuller left as the next OIC hated reservists. Can't remeber his name.

Chemical. To do maintenance on the CG40558 we had to take it to Bay Harbor to pull it out. We also
had a 21' TANB, a 21' Boston Whaler, a 17' air boat and a 14' skiff. I would like to here from

was the name it had then. It was a lighthouse located inside Dow Chemical and We had to go through
gate security every time we left or came in. I visit Bay City every summer and the many friends that
I made while stationed there. We had to haul our drinking water with a 600 Gal water tank which we
pulled behind a 1/2 ton Ford Pickup. The Chief's Name was Lawerence R. McDonniel BMCM (one of the
first E-9's) and he was a great OinC. Will never forget that Feb day that I reported.
