age 81. For all of you that did not know him you missed out on one of the finest men and one who
during his career served as the Commander Group Grays Harbor now known as Group Astoria and as
Commanding Officer Station Cape Disappointment during the early 70's. He was a fare and just man
that put his men under him first and foremost. He treated us well. For those of you at the Cape when
putting up morning colors look down where the 36 footer is on display. That is where we would see

recognize- Doug Knutzen, Bob Peterson (I think I sent him to Bob Adams to find the sea chest keys),

station and Jerry Steed was at the school. Bought my home while I was stationed here and moved back
when I retired in 92. Note: In 1970 as a teenager I became a CG Auxillarist and worked the weather
booth in Hammond, and worked as a crewman with my Dad on Aux. Ken Gilbertsons 31Ft Bertram doing bar

winter, setting WX condition 2 for those winter storms, and those long bouy 10 days towing in the

Best - BMCM McAdams (Also The BOSS) - Jerry Stead - Larry Hicks - McCoy- Jim Borley - Mark Simmons -
Larry Allen - Milne -John Baucom -Terry Jones - Robinson just to name a few. These were dedicated
Coastguardsmen who went above and beyond the call of duty on many occasions to save lives and
rescue many boaters. FY 1971-72 ? just short of 700 boat calls (699) Bringing em in with the
Boston Whailer. What great times! For all that have served at the Cape, you can be proud of being
part of the best small boat station in the world ! With your new boats and new crews, Cape 'D' will
live on forever serving the commercial and private boating community. Always remember that at Cape

our best. Miss Washington state and the Columbia River, especially the windsurfing. I did five years

up the St. Lawrence Seaway. Now I am a cabinet maker with five kids, home every night. Hope to here

Guam in '95, he was on the BASSWOOD while I was at the MSO. BMCM Curtis Mauk is the OIC of
BARRACUDA, the first of the Predator class PB's. Tragically, BMCS Jim Pavini was killed in the
crash of a civilian helo in the Gulf of Mexico while flying out to an oil rig to do an MSO
inspection. Saw a bunch of the people from my era at the Quillayute River memorial service last
year, a sad event. LCDR Mike Monteith is still the best CO I ever served under. Wish we had more
like him.
