I worked out of YBI from 1954-1956 as OinC, CG-65400D, now named the BAYBERRY I believe.
She was new off the ways the year I went aboard as BM1. Some of our duties were supplying the Light
Stations at Alcatraz, Angel Island and East Brother Island. We also maintained the Seaplane Seadrome
at CGAS San Francisco. There was a permanent N-S and E-W line of buoys made of rubber tubes with
battery-powered flourescent lights for use in night seaplane operations. Each buoy was turned on and
off by a boat crew. As payola for maintaining the buoys, the Air Station would occasionally fly one
of my crewmen down in a helo to one of the lights at Redwood City and lower him down to do a
relight, which saved us a run of several hours. We also serviced the Light Attendant Stations at
Stockton, Upper Sacramento River and Rio Vista. Also maintained Aids in the Napa River up to Cutting
Wharf. That was 45 years ago. Probably not many of the people I served with still around. Anyone who
remembers, give me a growl.

Station at the old Port Security Station,on Base Alameda, ran 40' patrol boats (1960-1962.
CO Dick Hoover (later of the credit union). Later at CG Recruiting Oakland, Ca.(1962-1965) worked
with BMC Willie Braxton and later BMC Hal Farrar. Knew almost everyone at Base Alameda boot camp.
Some CC were Sonny Rodgers, George Taylor, Shortround Harris, John Jennings, Jim Havens and many
more. I may have enlisted some of you who are now retiring. If you remember me send an e-mail. Also
served at COTP San Francisco 1959 to 1960. Retired in 1976 as CWO (Bosn).
