said: I worked out of YBI from 1954-1956 as OinC, CG-65400D, now named the BAYBERRY I believe.
She was new off the ways the year I went aboard as BM1. Some of our duties were supplying the Light
Stations at Alcatraz, Angel Island and East Brother Island. We also maintained the Seaplane Seadrome
at CGAS San Francisco. There was a permanent N-S and E-W line of buoys made of rubber tubes with
battery-powered flourescent lights for use in night seaplane operations. Each buoy was turned on and
off by a boat crew. As payola for maintaining the buoys, the Air Station would occasionally fly one
of my crewmen down in a helo to one of the lights at Redwood City and lower him down to do a
relight, which saved us a run of several hours. We also serviced the Light Attendant Stations at
Stockton, Upper Sacramento River and Rio Vista. Also maintained Aids in the Napa River up to Cutting
Wharf. That was 45 years ago. Probably not many of the people I served with still around. Anyone who
remembers, give me a growl.

Later went to Recruiting duty in Oakland, Ca. from 1962 to 1965. Enlisted many guys to play sports
for the Base teams. I played Basketball for the Base team for about 5 years while at these two
units. I knew most of the Company Commanders well and if anyone can recall any that they are
looking for give a shout, I may know. I stayed in and retired after 20 years as a CWO Bosn.

Greetings to you sir, and I still remember Thanksgiving at your house and the BBQ turkey,
delicious. I would like to hear from BMC Sether (went CGI) or anyone else that was there then.
