I was only at Pt Allerton a short time, but have found memories of the summer of 1976 and all the good people I served with. Anyone remember helping patrol 'Old Iron Sides' during the 1976 fireworks in Boston Harbor? Reading the name Boats Warren stirred memories for sure. Good luck to all.

PT. ALLERTON 2008 This is an offical announcement for all Pt. Allerton alumni. On Saturday August 2, 2008 there will be a reunion of all past Pt. Allerton alumni. Further details will be forthcoming as time goes on. I realize this is a ways off but CWO4 Robert A. Buotte and I are trying to get some idea of the turnout. So spread the word and e-mail me.

I am trying to locate Pappy Cameron. I was stationed with him At Point Allerton Lifeboat Station in 1964. He stayed in the Coast Guard. I can't recall his first name. He came to Point Allerton I believe from the USCGCutter Coos bay. He changed his rating from CS2 to BM2. He was a cook on the Coos bay. He was from Iowa and I believe thats where he is located now. His wifes name is Shirley and she was from Maine. Anyone have any info would appreciate it

I was at Pt. Allerton 76 - 78. Pt. Allerton brought out the best in all of us. Was it Mr. Buotte's leadership or something in the air or the excellent food? Oh boy do I remember Boats Warren! I see some familiar names here. John Halter who was my coxswain on the 40', 41' and 44' a few times, Frank Libby my snipe colleague. Paul Christian, my friend and of course Elmer B. who, among his other duties took the station lab to the vet. Who knows about or can remember when I was spray painting something in the garage and got overspray on Mr. Buottes new car?

On 05/25/07 Elmer J. Borsos said:
I am looking for BM1 Tony Warren. We served together at Pt. Allerton from 1976-1977. John Halter and I were wondering what happened to him after he left Pt. Allerton.

To Scott Beardsley: You were by far the worst cook in the Coast Guard. (Although you did make the best Lobster I ever had!) And if anyone who knows you reads this, they will know you will take it as a compliment!!! You were also the funniest cook! Definitely not The CO's favorite! Hope your doing well!

Was stationed at PA from Jan 1968 to Oct. 1968. Looked over all the postings and did not see anyone else who was there during those dates. Was only there a short time, but have a lot of good memories about the Station. Would like to hear from anyone who was there during that time. I was an EN3 and made EN2 while stationed there. Can't remember any names right now but if I hear some they will come back to me. Drop me a line if you get a chance. Thanks.

Mark Jenkins and I are still in contact, Chuck Murry, Gary Mann, Sean Kelly, I understand that Bob Casey is not in good heath, Let's wish him the best and pray for his health. That's all I have for now, Fair winds and following seas.

Saw the pictures of the station, quite a difference from when i was stationed there after returning from Vietmnam in 1968. I was stationed at the old house cant tell you what street it was on, our boat house was on shore with rails that led into the water. The bell in the picture looks familiar is that the one that was at the old Point Allerton Station?

I was CO in the mid 80's and remember the Dodds well. Verdi along with Frank Shinney and others manned the comm center every single weekend of the year. Gert was always there. The Malones spent hours as boat crew on station boats, many others spent scores of hours on SAR patrol, sometimes spending half the night searching and assisting boaters. The Coast Guard Auxiliarist at PA were some of the most dedicated people that I have ever had the pleasure of meeting and working with. I hope that the new Auxiliarist can measure up to Verdi, Gert, Frank, Paul, Lisa and all of the others who's names are starting to fade from my old brain.

On07/19/06 CWO Jim McDevitt said:
So very sorry to hear of Gert Dodd's passing over the bar. May she rest in peace. My sincere condolences to Verdi and Paul Dodd.

Mr Buotte, You probably don't remember me I was a MK-2 at the Point from 1978-1981 when you conducted Group Inspections. It was people like you and other former Point Allerton CO's like Mr Gadow and too many other great men that convinced me that the Coast Guard was the place to be. I retired 3 years ago as a CWO4 Eng having served 26 years. I loved every minute but Point Allerton was the the Best. I learned pride dedication and skill could overcome anything. I had the pleasure of serving with some very fine men and women there and will never forget a single minute of it.

I’m looking to interview Coasties who were involved with several rescues that took place during a surprise storm off the New England Coast in November of 1980. Several Coast Guard boats and stations were involved and the cutter that had the most rescues was the Active. There were several fatalities that day: the F/V Fairwind pitchpoled and only one crewman was rescued at Georges Bank, the F/V Sea Fever lost a crew member when the pilot house windows were smashed, the F/V Determined sank, and many more. If you know anyone that was stationed in New England during that time, including at Cape Cod Air Station please forward this note. I am the author of several books and working on one about this freak storm. (The National Weather service was sued because if failed to tell the F/V that the Georges Bank weather buoy was malfunctioning.) Thank you, Michael Tougias 508-520-8843

To be stationed at Pt Allerton was a privilege under the command of CWO R.A. Buotte. I was stationed there fron Oct 75 to Jan 78. I was a boat engineer. My first boat was the 40533 with Al Raymond with various seamen. In fact we spent most of the winter at the boat house at Pemberton Point re firbishing the 40533 so it would look the best come spring along with Tim Sugrue of the starbord watch. My best time was during the Operation Sail 1976 when we pulled the duty of crowd, actually boat, control in Boston Harbor when the Tall Ships came in to Boston. Those were fun days.

There are pivotal places in every career, and Point Allerton was one for me. George Bassett saved my career in 1981 - I'm not sure of where I'd be today if he had chosen differently - but I'm certain that I wouldn't still be in uniform! I spent a memorable two years at PA with the likes of Frank Reed, Matt Coombs, Kelly K, Kevin Blount and Dave Waldrip. Of course I can't forget my brother BM1 - Steve Kynaston (or his lovely bride). Sure were some crazy times -and crazy cases - I'll never forget the sailboat aground on Great Brewster Spit or the evening the auxiliary boat led a deep draft gulf coast shrimper up the small boat channel into Boston (at low water)! Then there were the Sunday afternoons at Uncle Sam's and Tuesday nights at the Vets Club with MKC 'Moose' Heniez. I think of my time at PA often- and thank God (and George Bassett) that I survived it!

I was stationed at Point Allerton from 5/64 - 8/64. It was much harder than being on a ship.Liberty was 5 & 2. Those five days on were long, as you had to stand radio watch, as well as work all day. I had been on the Eastwind & always thought I wanted lifewboat station duty, TILL I GOT THERE. I couldn't wait to get back to sea duty. When a slot on the soon to be commissioned Vigilant opened up, I grabbed it. I spent the rest of my 4 years on the Vigilant. I have nothing but admiration for the hard working shipmates who man these lifeboat stations.

No doubt that I am still in today because of the times I had in PA. I said I would never leave the area and continued my service on Pendant, Group Boston, Active, Sta Menemsha, Ant Boston and then well they sent me to the Firebush out of Kodiak which is a great job with incredible scenery. I passed through Allerton on my way to the lifeboat station at Squatum (sp?) in June 66. Not there long, about a week. We did bring the 40 over for repairs a few times.
