I'm saddened to report that BMC Ken Hill (USCG ret) crossed the bar on August 5th, 2005 in Davie, FL. He was 44 years old and leaves a wife and a 3 year old daughter. BMC Hill was the XPO of Station New Haven from 87-91. He was a good Friend.

On the US Coast Guard Medal Awards page on my 44ft Motor Lifeboat site at http://home.online.no/~lawford/xrl/xrl.htm, I have Coast Guard Medal award citations for those Coast Guardsmen who were awarded the Coast Guard Medal, while serving on 44' MLB’s. Doe’s anyone know if Christopher P. TRUPPA BM2 earned his Coast Guard Medal aboard a 44’ MLB and if so which one? I believe he was stationed at New Haven at the time of this rescue, which was on the 5 January 1980. Also doe’s anyone have his citation?

I GOT STATIONED AT NEW HAVEN RIGHT OUT OF BOOT CAMP. I'M FROM WATERBURY ORIGINALLY. NEW HAVEN WAS A GOOD UNIT TO BE AT AS AN FN BECAUSE IT REALLY PREPARED ME FOR DC'A' SCHOOL. I MET SOME OF THE BEST SAILORS(AND INCREDIBLE CHARACTERS!) THERE. I WOULD LOVE TO BE ABLE TO CONTACT WALT DODGE, WAYNE DIGERONIMO, MIKE DUGAN, MIKE SIBILIA, TERRY MCEVILY, BRAD WEST AND ESPECIALLY BOB DAVIS. I REMEMBER LOU WALKER, TOM HAZELTINE, AND THE LATE ANDRE RICHARD PRETTY VIVIDLY. AND CWO MARTY LACY, FROM GULFPORT MISSISSIPPI. WHAT AN UNLIKELY COLLECTION OF LIFESAVERS! I WAS DISCHARGED IN MAY '82 AFTER 5 1/2 YEARS OF SERVICE, AND NEW HAVEN WAS GOOD TO ME.
