BT2, Sheldon, IA had passed away. Any one who served with Gary aboard the Jonquil will remember him
as a first rate guy. He could always be counted on to bring on some well timed humor, from his red
motor-scooter to his famous 'Holy Cow'! saying at the right moment. God Speed Gary!

history and how the came to be transfered to the Coast Guard. Information on your ship is available
on the Coast Guard Historians site. Discussion on the Ivy Table got me interested in who the Goast
Guard obtained the Ivy from. After quite a bit of research I have found the following information on
her and the four identical ships which were transfered to the C. G. in 1947. Builder: Marietta
Manufacturing Company, Point Pleasant, West Virginia Length: 188' 8' Beam: 37' Displacement: 1,323

Coastal Artillery Corps as the 'Colonel George Armistead.' Designed as a Mine Layer. 24 March 1945 -
transfered to the US Navy, renamed USS Barbican, ACM-5. 21 Febuary 1947 - transfered to the USCG,
renamed CGC Ivy, WAGL/ WLB- 329. Decommissioned: 26 November 1969 at Astoria, Oregon Disposition:

said: Long time since I checked this site. Good to see Carl's name listed. This is the only
cutter reunion page where I know most of the folks entering comments. My 255 Reunion CD arrived
today but I couldn't recognize many faces. I wonder if age and a few extra pounds on everyone was
the reason ha. All of you take care and let me know if you run across any of our mutual shipmates.
Note the new and improved e-mail address above. On05/24/01 Carl

said: I was stationed on JONQUIL 1959-1961 in Portsmouth and Morehead City and again for a short
time in 1967. Frank Britt, Wayne Ayers and Ed Sigmund were onboard during my times there.Frank was
my best buddy and we used to car pool to and from the ship in his old car that used two quarts of
oil per gallon of gas. I get confused about who was on board during my two times but I still
remember some of the names like Charlie and John Taylor, McKenzie, Loon Johnson, Henry James, Larry
Barker,Oscar Gray,, Charlie Wharton, Pack, Willie Sutton,Wilson and a lot of faces that I can't put
names to. Joe Correa E-mailed me this morning and he brought back a lot of the memories I had of so
many friends from my past. My lungs are suffering from too many fireboxes and steam drum cleanings
but hope to get back to Morehead City in the near future because Frank owes me a dinner.
