1948-'51 passed away this morning at 0230hrs at his son's home in Massapequa NY. His memories of his
times on the CGC Cowslip were always bright and he had many funny and interesting stories to share
through the years. He always looked forward to the reunions in Portland and held his shipmates in
high regard. If anyone has any stories they would like to share regarding my uncle or the times on
the Cowslip during those years please email me. Regards, Steve Triano

said: I served on the Cowslip October 1964 through March 1966. ET-3. One 'interesting' trip
was to Charleston, SC for drydock and underway training with the Navy. On the return trip, we ran
into one NEARLY perfect storm. Fifty foot swells. Shipped green sea, lost all power for some
hours. Finally got the bow thruster working so we could head into the seas. Eventually got the
mains back, continued on our way under engine room control. Bridge controls were burned out. We
met the Laurel in Baltimore. she was on her way tothe yards, so we scavenged parts off her. We
were then fully operational. Left about 4 feet of snow in Portland, found 1/4 inch of snow and
balmy temperatures (30 degrees) in Charleston that paralyzed the city. Any old shipmates out
there?
