Fred's
Place Screen Saver
This screen saver
allows you to display the pictures you download from Fred's Photo
Archive when you computer is idle. You can also add your own
photos as long as they are in .bmp or .jpg format. No pictures
are included with this program so you might want to download a
few to get you started. These brief instructions are provided for
those who are not familiar with installing and configuring screen
savers. You can find more detailed help on the various controls
and settings from the Help menu that is available once
installation is complete.
Installation
These instructions only apply if
you are running Windows 95 or 98 although this program can also
be used with Windows NT 4.0 server or Workstation. If you're
running NT you probably already know enough to install screen
savers.
- First download the Freds
Place Screensaver.exe file
- Double-click the file. A
window will appear. Read the message and press the OK
button.
- Another window will appear
showing the location where the file will be installed.
This location is important since screen savers must be in
your Windows\System directory before you
can use them. The default location is C:\Windows\System,
which is correct for most users. If you have Windows
installed on another driver other than C:,
or if your System directory is located
elsewhere you will have to change the default directory
shown to what is correct for your system.
- Once the installation
directory is correct press the Unzip
button. Installation is now complete.
Configuration
- Go to Display
Settings. There's two ways to do this:
- Right-Click on your desktop,
select Properties from the pop-up menu.
- From your Start
Menu, select Control Panel, then click
the Display icon.
- From the Display
Settings, select the Screen Saver tab.
- From under the Screen Saver
selection box, select Freds Place Screen Saver.
The familiar orange PFD logo will appear.
- Press the Settings
button. The Select Pictures window will
appear. This is where you add the pictures you wish to
use. Note that if you pause your cursor over any button
or control a small pop-up hint will appear lending a
description of its function.
- Press the button with the Camera
icon and select your pictures. Repeat this for all the
pictures you wish to use. When you're finished press the OK
button located at the bottom. This will take you
back to the Screen Savers tab. Now press
Preview and be careful not to move your
mouse. Wiggle the mouse a bit or press a key to cancel
the preview.
- You're just about finished!
From the Screen Savers tab select the Wait
of time for amount of time that the screen saver should
start after your computer has become idle, then press the
OK button located near the bottom.
Once the screen
saver is installed check out the "User Settings". This
is where these and the other functions are set and adjusted. This
screen saver is offered for free and it carries a 100% guarantee
that if you're not satisfied your money will be cheerfully
refunded.
