BM1 Barry Jason Yawn

Boatswainsmate First Class Barry Jason Yawn, USCG 35 a native of Savannah, GA died Tuesday at the U. S. Coast Guard facilities in Cape May, NJ. BM1 Yawn was educated in Savannah area schools. BM1 Yawn was a 17-year veteran of the U. S. Coast Guard. He received basic training at Cape May, NJ and served at Marine Safety Detachment Cincinnati, OH, USCGC OSAGE, Pittsburgh, PA, USCGC ESCAPE, Charleston, SC, USCG Sector Philadelphia, PA and USCG Training Center, Cape May, NJ. BM1 Yawn has received the Transportation 9-11 medal, Commandants Letter of Commendation, Secretary’s (DOT) Outstanding Unit Award, Coast Guard Unit Commendation, Coast Guard Meritorious Unit Commendation, Coast Guard Meritorious Team Commendation, Coast Guard “E” Ribbon, Coast Guard Bicentennial Commendation, Coast Guard Good Conduct Medal, Transportation 9-11 Ribbon, Special Service Operations Ribbon, Coast Guard Sea Service, Coast Guard Expert Rifleman Medal and Coast Guard Expert Pistol Medal. BM1 Yawn was also qualified U. S. Coast Guard Coxswain and Cutterman. He is survived by a daughter Jessica Yawn and a son Joey Yawn of New Castle, DE; his mother Sylvia Yawn of Savannah, GA; Brother Boatswainsmate Chief Todd Yawn, USCG of Summerville, SC; he was preceeded in death by father George Glenn Yawn and son Joshua Yawn; He is also survived by numerous aunts and uncles and his Coast Guard Family. The ceremony washeld with full military honors.
