CWO4 Thomas (Tom) J. Jozwiak, Retired; father of LT Ellen (Jozwiak) Terrill, Retired; father-in-law of LCDR Brad Terrill, passed away peacefully at Stanford Medical Center in Palo Alto, California on October 13, 2007, after a sudden illness. He recently resided in Petaluma, California and Nahcotta, Washington.Tom was born in Chicago on March 31, 1931. After graduating from Saint Patrick High School in 1949, he joined the Navy with his best friend Herbert Donzelli. After serving honorably as a hospital corpsman, Tom transferred to the Coast Guard. Graduating from the Duke University Physicians Assistant Program in 1973, he was one of the first two Physicians Assistants in the Coast Guard, and the first at Training Center Petaluma. In 1982, after serving 26 years, Tom retired from Coast Guard Headquarters, Washington, DC. He was one of the founding members of Medical Advisory Systems, Inc. of Owings, Maryland. In 1987, he returned to the west coast. Most of his retirement years were spent attending to the medical needs of his wife, Patricia E. (Kane) Jozwiak, who preceded him in death. In recent years he enjoyed traveling and spending time with his family. Tom enjoyed socializing at the Senior Center and loved regaining his strength and endurance at physical therapy. Just a few weeks before his death, reveling in his new found fitness, he was quoted as saying, �I feel like a new man!� Thomas, son of the late Bruno and Rose Jozwiak, is survived by his five children: Ellen Terrill of Burke, Virginia; Barbara Morrison and Victoria Jozwiak of Petaluma, California; Thomas R. Jozwiak of Prunedale, California; and Robert T. Jozwiak of Manassas, Virginia, and their families, including Tom�s seven grandchildren. He is also survived by his sisters, Sylvia Stanley of Mobile, Alabama, and Patricia Jozwiak of Chicago.Please join the family in celebrating Tom�s life at an open house on Sunday, October 28, from 2 � 7 p.m., at 1672 Kearny Court, Petaluma. In the tradition of Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead), Tom�s friends, acquaintances, and caregivers are invited to bring a photo or memento of a deceased loved one or pet, and their favorite food to share. The photos and mementos will be displayed on a memorial alter. In July or August 2008, the family will gather in celebration of Tom�s life, and his ashes will be scattered by the Coast Guard in the waters off Cape Disappointment.
