'Capt. Paul W. Tifft Jr., former commanding officer of the U.S. Coast Guard Air Station here in San Diego died March 15, 2006 after a long illness.' 'Capt. Tifft, a second generation Coast Guardsman graduated from the Coast Guard Academy, Class of '48 and was designated a Coast Guard aviator in 1951.'
