John (Jack) Streeper

I am deeply saddened to inform you that our good friend and shipmate, Jack Streeper, passed away this weekend (3/18/98)at his home in Fairfax, Va. For those who knew Jack he was the finest of souls. I don't know anyone who ever had a bad thing to say about him. When he was on active duty, he had a reputation as the premier C-130 pilot; indeed, I believe they even wrote a poem about his prowess while on one of his several tours in Kodiak.I got to know Jack primarily through our mutual love of trains. Jack built museum quality models but was not limited to trains. Airplanes and boats (particularly PT Boats) were also passions of his. He once went on a model train water tank building spree and built about six of them. He asked me if I wanted one that he didn't feel was up to his standards. I gladly took it and it is the best scratchbuilt model I own - far superior to anything I've ever built. Such was Jack's skill. At the present time, the funeral arragements are pending. Jack's wife Chris, his son John and daughter Donna are going through the difficult process of making the appropriate arrangements. I'm sure they all could use our thoughts and prayers.
