Klaus Joachim Steinhorst of Sequim (WA) died in a vehicle collision on US 101. He was 57.
He was born in Warendorf, Germany to Wolfgang O. and Edith Dorthea (Rondthaler) Steinhorst.
During the 27 years he served in the Coast Guard, Mr. Steinhorst saw duty in Vietnam, Alaska, Astoria, OR, Seattle, Klamath Falls, OR, Portsmouth, VA and Port Angeles.
He attended numerous trade schools for mechanical engineering and received his associates degree in diesel power from Peninsula College.
Mr. Steinhorst was a multi-craft mechanic for seven years with Nippon Paper Industries USA Co. Ltd. in Port Angeles and was a member of the association of Western Pulp and Paper Workers.
His interests included spending many hours of his time on work related projects, his family, the beach and sailing.
He married Cathy Jo Jacobs in Lakewood (WA) on Jan 22, 1972.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Steinhort's survivors include son Tim of Edgewood(Wa); daughters and sos-in-law Heidi and A.J. Pluhar of Fort Leonardwood, MO and Sandy and Jay Hofer of Vancouver, WA; mother Edith of Tucson, AZ; brother and sister-in-law Jack and Renee Steinhorst of Sheridan, WY ; sister and brother-in-law Rita and Dave Clark of Fletcher,VT; and five grandchildren.
Both his father and a son Gary preceeded him in death.
Services were held May 13th in Port Angeles, WA
