Robin Starrett
Starrett Remembered As Good Friend And Consummate Professional
10 January 2008
A memorial service has been scheduled for Robin Starrett, the pilot of the Servant Air airplane that crashed in Kodiak last weekend, killing Starrett and five Russian Old Believers from the Homer area. The ceremony has been scheduled for this Sunday at 1 p.m. at the Gerald C. Wilson Auditorium at Kodiak High School.
Meanwhile, some of Starrett’s former colleagues in the Coast Guard are remembering him as a good pilot and a good friend. Scott Griffin flew search and rescue missions with Starrett in C-130s before both retired from the Coast Guard a couple of years ago.
He says they soon found out they had quite a bit in common.
Griffin says many of those former colleagues have contacted him asking about funeral arrangements. He says Kodiak and the world will be a lesser place without him.
City Councilman Jack Maker also worked alongside Starrett in the Coast Guard.
Maker says he sends his best wishes to Starrett’s family.
Starrett’s memorial service is this Sunday at 1 p.m. at the Gerald C. Wilson Auditorium at Kodiak High School. In addition, Servant Air has established a memorial fund at Wells Fargo Bank in the name of the families of the crash victims. Donations can be made at any Wells Fargo branch, just ask for the Families of the Servant Air Crash Memorial Fund. Also, cards or letters of condolence to family members may be sent to Servant Air at P-O Box 3, Kodiak 99615.
Funerals for the Russian Old Believers who died were held earlier this week on the Kenai Peninsula.
