BMC Roger Soper, USCG Ret.
You know that you have passed a certain milestone in life when in reading 'Evening Colors', the publication for Coast Guard Retirees, formerly the 'Retiree Bulletin', you recognize more people on the Taps list than you do on the Retirement List.
This evening, I found the name of a former shipmate, BMC Roger Soper, USCG Ret, on the TAPS list of the latest edition of Evening Colors.
Roger, then a BM1 , was a fellow member of the First Class Quarters of the USCGC Planetree (WLB 307) between 1984 - 85, out of Juneau, Alaska.
Roger appearently lost his life in a motorcycle accident in Wisconsin on August 13, 2003.
Roger helped make the crew of the Planetree one of the tightest knit crews that I ever had the privilege of serving with during my career.
Fair winds and following seas Roger, wherever you are.
