Robert H. Simmons, 80, of MANASQUAN, died Friday, March 12, at home. He was a plant engineer at various facilities, including Lily Tulip, Holmdel, Monmouth Medical Center, Long Branch, and Princeton Medical Center. He retired in 1986. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Coast Guard in 1942 and the Merchant Marines from 1942 to 1945. He received the Philippine Liberation Ribbon and, recently, the Distinguished Service Medal. He was a member of the Army National Guard at Sea Girt from 1952 to 1962.
He was predeceased by his wife of 52 years, Teresa Schleck Simmons, in 1998; his parents, Harold M. and Mildred LaPointe Simmons Sandomenico; and a brother, Roger Simmons. Surviving are two sons and daughters-in-law, Robert J. and Perla Simmons of Brielle and Thomas A. and Beth Simmons of Tucson, Ariz.; six daughters and sons-in-law, Carol and Randy Maccanico of Spring Lake Heights, Joanna and Mike Casey of Casa Grande, Ariz., Mary Ellen and John Messina of Boca Raton, Fla., Nancy and Chris Brais of Medfield, Mass., Janet and Mick Darcey of Tempe, Ariz., and Lorraine and Craig Andres of Toms River; a brother, William Simmons of Tampa, Fla.; 12 grandchildren, Randy III, Michael, Marc and Melanie Maccanico, James Edelhauser, Jessica Hamilton, Sandy Khneiger, Jason and Rachel Simmons, Brian and Jackie Andres, and Anita Colamaria; four great-grandchildren; and several in-laws, nieces and nephews.
