CWO Steve Shields

To all fellow shipmates past and present. I regret to inform you that yesterday June 9th 2002, CWO (COMM2) Steve Shields passed away after complications from a stroke. I first met Steve in May/1986 while stationed at Group Sandy Hook, NJ. We not only worked together, we roomed together and became the best of friends along with his wife Vallarie and my wife Laura. Our families have been together in our careers off and on. Even if we had thousand of miles between us, we never lost touch and when we saw each other, it was as though we were never really apart. Steve was a very special person. Everyone that had either a long encounter or just a brief moment with Steve, shared a respected admiration for him. Steve always made people feel that they were important to him. Steve and Val have often told us that we were not friends anymore but family. I understand this more today than ever before. I know I could not be any sadder or lonelier than if this had happened to one of my own family members. Steve was a brother to me and I will always cherrish his love and friendship forever. So old buddy, FAIR WINDS AND FOLLOWING SEAS. I love you. Funeral arrangements are still being arranged. There will be a service first than a final resting place at Arlington National Cemetary at a later date. If anyone is interested please contact me at; Tim and Laura Rollins, 7473 Robin Rd, LaPlata, MD 20646, (301)609-3043, trrollins17@comcast.net
