For the information of all hands....
Master Chief Quartermaster Robert M. (Bob) Shannon passed away Sunday, 5
October at Andrews AFB Malcolm Grow Hospital, Camp Springs MD, after a
long illness. For those of you who recognize the name - Bob was a
staunch supporter of the Chief Petty Officers Association (CPOA) and
one of the association's founding fathers. He served as the CPOA's
first National Vice-President (Oct 69-Apr 70) and later held the office
as the second National President (May-Jun 70). Among his high honors
within the CPOA, the Gold Lifetime Award was bestowed on him in Aug 1984.

service. His last assignment was at Coast Guard Headquarters. After
retirement, he remained in the Metropolitan DC area, and continued to
be active with the CPOA Washington DC Chapter. He is survived by Jean,
his wife of over 50 years. QMCM Shannon was cremated on 5 Oct. His

I credit him as being the one who taught me what being a Chief is all
about! It's unsung heroes like this who will leave a lasting legacy
both to the Coast Guard, and the people they've touch. MCPOCG VWP
