Ludwig Rubinsky

Lt. Commander Ludwig K. Rubinsky, USCG Ret. died of cancer on Saturday, October 27, 2001. 'Lud', as he was known by everyone, retired from the Coast Guard in 1965 while at the CG Academy. After his retirement, he founded Electronautical Inc., a marine electronics business in Waterford, CT. He continued to serve the Coast Guard and the Navy in the New London area by providing electronics and safety equipment, installations, repair and maintenance until his second retirement in August 2000. I had the distinct pleasure of having worked part time for him from 1974 to 1980, while stationed in the New London area. Lud was like a father to me and was one of the finest men that I have ever known. He was respected and admired by all who knew him. He was always willing to put out the extra effort to do a job right. The work ethic he learned in the Coast Guard followed him into the business world. Lud loved the Coast Guard and Coast Guard History. He was a font of wisdom on old Coast Guard trivia and amassed a vast collection of memorabilia. I will most certainly miss him, as will so many others whose lives he touched throughout the years. Lud is survived by his wife Jean and daughters Jane and Melissa. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday October 30, 2001 at Thomas L. Neilan & Sons East Lyme Funeral Home, 48 Grand St. Niantic, Ct. Burial will be in Norwich Hebrew Benevolent Cemetery, Norwich,CT. Fair winds, Smooth sailing and following seas old friend. You deserve a well earned rest at last.
