Robert E. Courter Sr. WWII Vet

ROBERT E. COURTER SR., 83, of HOLMDEL, died Monday, Feb. 5, at Arnold Walter Nursing Home, Holmdel. He was a lead custodian for the Hazlet Board of Education for 21 years, retiring in 1988. He was known as Mr. Courter at Lillian Drive School, Hazlet. He lived in Holmdel for two years, and previously lived in Middletown for 58 years. He was born June 18, 1923, in Newark. He was a Coast Guard veteran, serving from 1942 to 1945 during World War II. He was a past member of The Sportsman Hunting Club. He was predeceased by his wife, Margaret Courter, in 1983; a son, Kenneth Courter, in 1982; and his brother, Albert Courter, in 1999. Surviving are three sons and a daughter-in-law, Robert E. and Sharon Courter of Poway, Calif., and Richard Courter and Edwin Courter, both of Port Monmouth, Middletown; three daughters and sons-in-law, Margaret and Cappy Piscitelli of Keansburg, Barbara and Ed Faiella of Marlboro, and Edna and William Cribbin of Middletown; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at John F. Pfleger Funeral Home, 115 Tindall Road, Middletown. Funeral services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
