Frederick Eastman Popplewell, Jr.

This noitce was posted on Mar 12, 2007 Frederick Eastman Popplewell Jr. born May 30, 1959 passed away on Monday, March 12, 2007, after a long battle with heart disease and cancer. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, March 15, 2007 at Dannel Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Irby McKnight, pastor of Harvest Time Assembly of God will be officiating. Interment will follow at West Hill Cemetery in Sherman, with military honors accorded at the graveside. Fred is the son of Frederick and Marshia Popplewell of Sherman, Grandson to Alva and Elizabeth (Dixon) McMillan of Denison, Edgar Thomas Butler of Shreveport, LA, and Vera Mae (Butler)Roberts of Provencal, LA. He leaves behind his beautiful, loving and caring wife Mary Elizabeth (Randall) who devotedly stood by him through his ordeal with cancer. Fred felt Mary was a gift from God and an answer to prayer as well as being the best caregiver a man could ever hope for. She helped make his life complete. Fred has four beautiful daughters, Savanah Marie 20, Kara Lynn 19, Calin Elizabeth 18 and Brittany Marie 14; as well as two wonderful and just as beautiful stepdaughters, Lexianne Jordan 14 and Isabelle Jordan 10, which he cared for and loved as though they were his own. Fred also leaves behind his loving mother Marshia of Sherman, brother James Popplewell, and wife Crystal of Denison, Sharon West and husband Carl of Wolfe City, Janet LaFoy and her loving husband Dale of Sherman. Fred felt that he received his strength and courage through the love and support of his family and friends as well as through the many prayer lists his name appeared. He also leaves behind many special Aunts and uncles such as Victor Lee Popplewell of Sherman, Renee Wade and Ruth Hightower both of Sherman, Shirley and Danny McWhirter of Decatur, TX. as well as other aunts, uncles and cousins, nieces and nephews that were special in his life. Fred was preceded in death by his dad, Frederick E. Popplewell Sr. and grandparents. Frederick (Fred), graduated from Sherman High in 1977 and went directly into the U.S. Coast Guard where he served for over 20 years, he retired in 1998. This was more than a job to him; it was a family tradition as he followed in the footsteps of his father Frederick E. Popplewell Sr. and uncle Victor Popplewell both who also retired from the Coast Guard after lengthy tours. Fred always mastered his assignments, striving to be the best and always giving every assignment his all. Fred complained that his time in the Coast Guard went too fast and that he missed serving, especially now since the role of Homeland Defense had been added to the roles and missions of the Coast Guard. Fred truly loved fishing, boating and cooking; he loved sharing his loves with friends and family. Fred loved his family more than one can put into words, loved hearing kids laughing, seeing them come home from school and always encouraging them to plan on college to make something productive of themselves. He loved sharing his knowledge with them, teaching teamwork and giving them that can do attitude despite odds and peer pressures. He could be tough and hated excuses, but this was because he knew life was too short. Fred wanted to give credit and thanks to the many who helped him throughout his ordeal: Fred held the highest respect for Dr. Ibrahim Sarris, not only for being one of his many doctors, but also for his genuine love and concern for every one of his patients. Fred felt that Dr. Sarris was more than a doctor; he was a friend and hero within our community. He also felt that God used Dr. Sarris to treat his patients, always giving them hope and courage. Dr. Sarris’s faith and love for children inspired Dr. Sarris to team up with others to open an orphanage in which he supports and maintains today. The Staff of North Texas Cardiology, Cancer Treatment Centers of America both in Chicago IL and Tulsa Ok, Texas Cancer Center, Dr. Tammy Roque, Veterans Hospital Dallas, Veterans Primary Care Clinic, Sherman, Home Hospice of Grayson County and Dr. Andrew L. Wade, Pulmunologist Pallbearers will be Lee Popplewell, Curtis Hightower, T.J. Wooton, Andrew McCune and David Randall. Honorary Pallbearers are Dale LaFoy, James Popplewell, Mike Burdette, Billy Echols and Dennis Wade. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, March 14, 2007 from 6 until 8p.m. at Dannel Funeral Home.
