James R Nagle BMCM Ret

James R. Nagle, of Boxford, MA, a retired Coast Guardsman who served his country for 21 years He was 79. My Dad enlisted in the U.S. Coast Guard in 1942. He met his wife, Betty, who was also serving as a Coast Guard SPAR, at the Commercial Street Base in Boston. He served aboard several ships on Greenland Patrol during World War II including the Amarok and the Monomoy. After the war he served on cutters on North Atlantic Ocean Stations including the Matagorda, and the Humboldt, and on 83-foot patrol vessels along the New England coast. In 1960 he was dispatched to North Africa by the U.S. State Department to train Libyan navy crews. When he retired in 1963 as a Master Chief Boatswains Mate at the Straitsmouth Life Boat Station in Rockport, MA, the station was retired with him.
