Marcelle Louise Emerson
Juneau resident Marcelle Louise Emerson died Jan. 5, 2006, in Palmer.
She was born July 20, 1923, in Fall River, Mass. She graduated high school in 1942 in Stanford,
Conn. She attended Joseph Lawrence School of Nursing for three years in New London, Conn., and
spent one year nursing at Fort Defiance Indian Reservation.
She married Coast Guard aviator Robert Emerson. She accompanied him on numerous tours of duty
during his 30-year career. Tours took them to Annette Island, Kodiak and finally, Juneau. Upon his
retirement, they commercially trolled for 27 years. They made their home in Funter Bay on
Admiralty Island. They fished in the vicinity of Pelican and in their favorite fishing grounds,
Hoctaheen.
She was a member of the Juneau Garden Club, the Juneau Welcome Wagon and Catholic Daughters of
America. She was a Red Cross nurse. Her family said she 'was a loving, compassionate and
supportive wife and mother who was devoted to her family.'
She was preceded in death by her husband.
She is survived by her children, Tom and his wife Susan, Joe and his wife Ulla Robert, and
Kathleen Foxley and her husband Greg.
A funeral service will be noon, Jan. 11, at Cathedral of the Nativity. A Rosary will be at 11 a.m.
A burial will be at a later date.
