Jefferson 'Jeff' Martin

//from the San Francisco Chronicle, July 8, 2001// MARTIN, Jefferson Barnett -- Athlete and outdoorsman, passed away in Santa Cruz June 26th at age 40. Jeff was a native of Oakland, CA and third generation east bay resident. He graduated from San Leandro HS in 1979. A natural athlete, Jeff was a championship wrestler going on to wrestle for the US team, as well as a diver and swimmer. Jeff loved the outdoors, adventuring out with the Monterey Bay White Stag and he was an active Eagle Scout in Oakland. Jeff served in the US Coast Guard in the bay area, Lake Tahoe, and Cuba, as well as on the USCG Cutter Rush in Alameda where he was the engineering department's storekeeper (SK3). Jeff was a graduate of UCSC's Porter College in Environmental Studies. Loving son of Clarice Donohue and Jack Martin; loving brother of Suzanne Irons and Amanda Martin, and adoring uncle to Stephanie Irons. Jeff was predeceased by his brother Edward Martin. Along with the outdoors, Jeff loved people, his bike, movies, the news, reading and politics. He was always available to help others in need. He knew the secret places of the bay area. His physical nature, humor, smile, curiousity and enthusiasm will be dearly missed by all that knew him.
