Richard M. King MKCS

USN: He was first assigned to the USS Bashaw, shanghaied (as the story goes) to the USS Nautilus then to the Skate, then Skipjack. While on the Nautilus, he was on her whilst circumnavigating the earth, went under the North Pole. He was on the Skate when the Skate and Skipjack met at the North Pole, bow to bow. USCG: He first served at Long Beach, if I remember correctly, doing something with base maintenance waiting for a ship. I was a little guy at the time ;-) He was then assigned to the Alert, then the Ventrust as it was affectionately came to be known as (Plank Owner), then, The Glacier. His final assignment was to MST there at Long Beach. He retired as the AOIC of MST. Basically they maintained (heavy maintenance) the 82' SAR boats from Santa Barbara to San Diego. I'll miss ya Pop, I'll miss the times we spent together in the machine shop 'putterin''. I'll miss the projects that weren't complete unless they had an empty can of beer tucked in an obscure place. You taught me a lot, I can only hope, I can honor you by using what you taught me. Pops is the one that put into my head, 'I wonder what if' or, 'Don't tell me it can't be done, we'll figure out a way!' I've kept those two things tucked in my head and heart and and they've served me well throughout the years. Thanks Pop, I love ya. Your 'Boy' Ken
