Michael David Gray
BM1 GRAY passed away September 28, 1999. Mike was involved in a motorcycle accident. He was born August 8, 1961 in Pittsfield Mass. He was serving aboard the USCGC Vigilant at the time of his death. I was in my
office this past week when a young man that was TAD on the Vigilant, when BM1 and myself were part of the crew, saw a picture of Mike that I have on my desk. Now you have to remember this young man was only TAD for about 60 days but
as soon as he saw that picture he said 'Hey thats BM1 Gray isn't it.' Yes I replied and then the guy began to ask how Mike was doing. With much regret I told the young coastie that BM1 had passed away. I saw the same shock in his
eyes that I saw in the crew of the Vigilant when we found out. So I'm writing this memorial to inform all of Mikes shipmates and to let him know how much he affected so many of us. One thing that I always remember his SALTY DOG SAILOR
ATTITUDE, and his awesome presence, his ability to make everyone laugh. Who could forget his excellent whistiling abilities to Steve Miller Band Songs, and his rendition of RollerCoaster! BM1 Gray you will be missed, loved, admired,
and thought of constantly. Thank you for touching our lives. May God Bless you and keep you may his face shine upon you and grant you peace.
For every burden that we bear,
For every sorrow, every care,
There's a reason
For every grief that bows the head,
For every tear-drop that is shed,
There's a reason
For every hurt, for every plight,
For every lonely painracked night,
There's a reason
But if we trust God as we should,
All must work out for our good,
He knows the reason.
