Capt George Garner USCGR (ret)

Earlier this week, we lost one of the pioneers of the Reserve, CAPT George Garner. George, a WW-II veteran, was one of the first RPA's and served in many important reserve assignment, notably as Chief of Reserve in the Fifth District and as assistant Chief of Reserve at Headquarters. During the dark days of the early seventies, when OMB decided that we had no mission, George was there to help us turn the tide and start reserve augmentation. In retirement, Capt Garner was a long time resident of Virginia Beach where he was active in civic life. George will be missed...he was a pioneer.
