I just found out about Rich's passing when I received my Chief's magazine yesterday. Rich was a very special and funny person. I was his HS when he received the news of his illness over five years ago. I only hope I would be able to have as much courage and dignity as he showed at that time. I believe that you take a part of every person that you meet with you during your life and the part I recieved from Rich has made me a better person. You will be missed and remembered by all that knew you!

I just recently (less than a month ago) found out about Rich's 'crossing of the bar' back in January 2001, by way of my July 2001 newsletter. I was his EO, Division officer, when Rich found out about his condition, over
6 and a half years ago! I spoke with his wife a few weeks back and it sounds like Rich remained his jolly cheerful self right up to the end. I was one of the three people that went to his house and remember the day like it was yesterday.
Even after breaking the news to him, Rich smiled one of his big 'ol smiles, as best that anyone could smile under the curcumstances and said 'so that's why I've been having those damn headaches'! Well, that was Rich anyone that knew him
will be saddened by the news of his passing. I also posted this on Group Fort Macon's reunion hall board since that's where I had met and had been stationed with Rich at. Rich you will be missed.
