Don Allen Forte
Our Family was stationed at the Loran station in Adak, Alaska, from 1970 to
1973. I was about 5 to 8 years old at the time. It was some of the best years of my life. I also
remember the ship name Morganthau. I was born in Mystic, Ct., while Dad was stationed at Groton.
We also lived in Governors Island, New York. and Miami, Fl.

Feb. 6, 1931 Dec. 25, 2005
Don Allen Forte, 74, of Huntsville died Sunday at Crestwood Hospital. Mr. Forte was born in Atmore
to Tom Forte and Thelma Ward Forte. He was a devoted husband and was very proud of his family and
grandchildren. He was a devout christian and a member of Whitesburg Baptist Church in Huntsville.
He was an engineer with Chrysler Corporation. He served in the Marines and retired from the Coast
Guard. Survivors include his wife, Bettie Forte of Huntsville; daughters, Carol Philpott of
Sunnyvale, Calif., Donna Baker of New Hope, Mary Carleton of Dunedin, Fla., and Noelle Bodine of
Guntersville; son, Michael Forte of Venice, Fla.; step-daughter, Donna Stephenson of Decatur;
sisters, Marjorie Campbell and Jerrye Sue Sumrall, both of Clarkesville, Ga.; six grandchildren;
two great-grandchildren; one step-grandson; and one step-great-grandson. Pallbearers are James
Bodine, Jeff Bodine, Michael Forte, Kevin Carleton and James Bodine Sr. Visitation and funeral
services will be Thursday at McConnell Memorial Chapel Funeral Home with Emerson Lyle officiating.
Visitation will be from noon to start of service at 2 p.m. Interment will be in Bottoms Cemetery.
