CAPT John Charles Dowling
CAPT John Charles Dowling, of Freeland, WA passed away at home on 10/15/2003. He was born August 12, 1924 in Flandreau, SD to Katherine O’Hara and John Thomas Dowling. He graduated from Kings Point Merchant Marine Academy in Nov 1944. He served in WWII and the Korean and Vietnam Wars. He married Daphne van der Walt, in Durban, South Africa on June 7 1951. He lived all over the US and retired as a Captain in the US Coast Guard after 29 years of service in 1975. He was a member of the Seattle Propeller Club. He settled in Bellevue, WA, later moving to Freeland where he enjoyed golf, his friends, his family and life.
He is survived by Daphne his seven children and 11 grandchildren, his older brother Frank Dowling of LaMirada, CA. Services will be 10/22/03 at Marlatt Funeral Home, in Kent Ph: 253-852-2620. Internment will be at Tahoma National Cemetery at 1:30 p.m.
