CDR Harold W. Doan, USCG (Retired)
The following was received from Mrs.
Esther Stormer today:Harold Whitney Doan, born 17 April 1925 in LaJolla, California quietly passed
away on Thursday 28 April 2005. A veteran of WWII serving aboard the USS Casablanca and the USS
Hoggat Bay as a Quartermaster. After the war Harold served in the Merchant Marine aboard the
Liberty ships Charles Brantley and the Fredrick W. Wood carrying needed rebuilding supplies to
Europe and the Orient. Harold then entered the United States Coast Guard from which he retired as
a full Commander 24 years later. Harold became a Maritime Pilot-Mooring Master with the Chevron
Corp from which he retired again and became a California State Lands Commissioner. An active
member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary until shortly before his death serving in various positions
including the Commandant of the California Coast Guard Auxiliary. A member of the local PTA,
Harold served as treasurer for many years. Harold W. Doan is survived by his loving wife Heidi
Doan, and his children Joanne Isabelle Presher of Federal Way, WA, Dennis Richard Doan of
Mountlake Terrace, WA, Thomas Robert Doan of Key Peninsula, WA, Edward Henry Doan of Everett, WA
and Matthew Christopher Doan of Harbor City, Ca and many grand children and great grand children.
