CSC Ben Deadmon USN (Ret)

Chief Deadmon was familiar to many Coasties on Kodiak Island. Ben died on Nov 29, 2002 on Kodiak Island. He was ill for many years with cancer. Ben was best known for living in a cabin in Kalsin Bay Kodiak shortly after his retirement from the US Navy in the early 60's to several years before he died at the age of 85. Many Coast Guardsmen would visit Ben in his cabin and at his apartment after he moved out of the woods. He played host many times for Coasties getting away from the base. He always had a pot of beans on the stove to share and was ready to swap stories. A truly self reliant man of honor and he will be remembered as a true Chief and friend even if he was a member of the 'junior' sea service. Ben wanted all his friends to know, past and present that he appreciated their friendship and visits over the years. A memorial is in the works.
