Darren
I sadly regret to inform the Coast Guard Community of losing a beloved sailor and friend. Although Darren was not the most promising coastee, he however loved the guard and its family and friends. Darren spent most of his time on the CGC Basswood in Guam and surrounding islands. Later he was transferred to San Diego. I have spent my last 16 years enjoying his company. Surfing in Mexico and California beaches. He was a very special person. Loved by all. He disappeared last year while sailing in Mission Bay San Diego. He had just left the harbor and something happened. His boat was found a mile offshore off of Pacific Beach. It is unknown what happed. Darren and I offened talked about our time on Guam, Phillipines, Hawaii, etc. The time we spent in the Coast Guard was the best of our lives! God bless Darren. May your sails always have wind.
