CDR Robert A. Danforth
I have just learned that CDR Robert A. Danforth passed away about four
years ago, of cancer. I am devastated by this news. I remember Cowboy
Bob as a young LT and the commander of LORMONSTA SHETLAND while I was
there (Sept. '74 - Oct. '75). It was a time of tremendous confusion
for me being very young and romantic (read immature) and Lt. Danforth
was the consumate professional/officer/leader who always managed to
find the patience to deal with me in exactly the way I was needing at
the moment (warmth and comfort when my grandmother died, Captain's
Mast when I screwed up real bad, support and encouragement when I
was making life-changing decisions). There has been a very short
list of true Hero's in my life. Robert A. Danforth's name has
always been at the top.
