ASM3 James G. Caines

Jamie Caines gave his life on his first SAR case off Cape Mendicino, CA. on the night of June 8, 1997. His goal was to be the best that he could be. His wife Crystal and son Josh will always remember him as a hero. Crystal will be forever sad that she did not get to see his face when he came home after his first SAR. He died doing a job that he had waited over two years to do and was the fastest swimmer qualified at GROUP Humboldt Bay. The hangar at Air Station Savanah was dedicated in his memory on Feburary 21, 1998. The dedication ceremony was beautiful and final for all of us. Jamie and the two pilots were not brought back, but our hearts and love will keep them allive for forever. We miss and love you Jamie. We will take care of Crystal and Josh and they will want for nothing. I got to meet Jamie's family and all of his wife's family who are just the most wonderful families. They embraced me as a member of their family and I and my family return that feeling ten fold. Your memories are with us for forever.

James G. Caines, ASM3

Today is the first anniversary of the crash of #6549 off the coast of California. The four crewman, Jeff Crane, Mr. Thigpen, Rick Hughes and James Caine. With our hearts full of sorrow and memories, we remember this day with sadness for the friends that we lost and memories of happy times. All men have been truly missed. We will always wonder why or what happened, but in our hearts they were doing a job they loved to do.

Jamie G. Caines, ASM Humboldt Bay, CA

We are now in the process of building a memorial building dedicated to all the men that we have lost here at Humboldt Bay. It will be a large glassed in building with a section for each man about his life. We are building with donations from the Chiefs and many other people who donated. It is built out of the love that we feel for each man that gave his life to save another and to pass on that memory for all to see. We want their families to know that they are not forgotten and never will be.
