Chief R. Rocky Brown, Ret.
My father, R. Rocky Brown, lost his very valiant fight against malignant
melanoma which metastized into bone cancer on October 19, 1998. He had
come to Seattle, Wa. for treatment at Swedish Medical Center but the
cancer had progressed too far, too fast for treatment to be effective.
Pops was a member of the U.S. Coast Guard from Sept. 1973 until June
1994. He was stationed in San Francisco, Astoria, and Kodiak. After
he retired, he returned to Kodiak, Ak where he and mom enjoyed each other,
their dogs, their friends and their lives in, as my dad once said,

ADC(ret) Rocky Brown
IN MEMORY OF ROCKY: It is with deep regret and sorrow that I share the
passing of ADC(ret) Rocky Brown with you all. Rocky passed away on the
evening of Monday the 19th of October, 1998, after a short battle with
melanoma cancer at Swedish Medical Center in Seattle, Washington.
For those of us that knew him, he will be sorely missed. Rocky was
one of those rare individuals that touched everyone he met. He always
had a smile, patience, words of encouragement, and a helping hand for
those who worked with him. He was the epitome of a Mentor and one of
the Coast Guard’s best. We will miss him greatly. There will be a
Memorial service and his ashes will be scattered at one of his
favorite places here in Kodiak. The exact date has not been determined
as of this posting, pending arrangements with the family and the USCG
Chapel. My prayers and support go out to his family. Rocky, I know
you’re watching over us all!
