CPO Larry Blewer
CPO LARRY BLEWER, (Charleston CG Reserve Unit for many years), Larry Joseph Larry Blewer, 65, husband of Anita Marie Lynch Blewer died in his home on June 05, 2006 after a courageous battle with esophageal cancer. Residence, North Charleston, South Carolina. Born October 25, 1940 in St. George, SC, Mr. Blewer was the son of the late Virgil F. and Daisy Belle Hill Blewer. He graduated from Chicora High School and Baptist College of Charleston. He was an active member of Ferndale Baptist Church. Mr. Blewer served four years as a Marine and retired from the Coast Guard with over twenty years of service, as a Chief Petty Officer and retired after thirty-one years of service as a civilian employee in the position of Accounting Technician at the Charleston Naval Shipyard. After retirement he was a volunteer at MUSC Children's Hospital and Roper Hospital. Mr. Blewer was known as The Hat Man , cheering children, young and old with his creative funny hats, reading and playing with the children and making them smile. He will be greatly missed by many fellow volunteers. Surviving Mr. Blewer are his faithful wife of thirteen years: Anita L. Blewer; three step-daughters: Anita Marshall and her husband, Jay of Ravenel, Katherine Cheshire and her husband, Rick of Gainesville, Florida and Marilyn Roe and her husband, Tony of Charleston; two step-sons: Harold R. Hutzler, Jr. of Mt. Pleasant and Ted Hutzler and his wife, Maria of Mt. Pleasant; nine grandchildren; Sarah Compton and husband, Jonathan, J. R. Marshall, Wayne Cheshire, Matthew Cheshire, Rachel Cheshire, Robert Roe, Ryan Roe, Victoria Roe, Trinity Marie Hutzler; one great grandchild; Kaylin Grace Compton; two brothers: Donnell Blewer and wife, Barbara and Jerry Ronald Blewer and wife Carol; six nephews: Michael Blewer and wife, Belinda, Kenny Blewer and wife Jamie, Jerry Blewer and wife Mia, Mark Blewer, Randy Blewer and wife Laura and Craig Blewer; two nieces: Denise Blewer and Robin Landers and husband, Daniel. Passing of a True Shipmate and Friend -- YNC Larry Blewer, USCGR (Ret).
It is with a heavy heart that I must inform you of the passing of YNC Larry Blewer. Larry passed away on 5 June 2006 after a brief bout with cancer. Larry's last duty station was the U.S. Coast Guard Reserve Unit Charleston, SC.
