Gregory A. Bevirt
On Dec. 30th 2005, exETN2 Gregory A. Bevirt crossed the bar in to the
afterlife. He was born Jun, 26 1947 in Oakland, CA. to Hugh and Shirley Bevirt. He was raised in
Illinois graduating from Althoff Catholic High School. He furthered his education and recieved a
BA from Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville, IL. and earned his MBA from Creighton
University in Omaha, NE.
He retired as the Director of Community Planning and Development for HUD in Omaha, Ne., totaling
30 years devoted to public service.
He is survived by his wife Ginny (Bauer) Bevirt, his only son Jeff, his mother, his three sisters,
many nieces and nephews, + his fellow former Coast Guard sailors.
His military time in the CG was a very special chapter in his life for him. He married Ginny, the
love of his life, in Dec. 1971 and she got to enjoy life on an enlisted mans pay for four years.
Her job at the phone company helped him eat better than most coasties, and they both opened the
door to their apartment as a haven for sailors wanting a little escape from the ship.
For those that served abaord the USCGC Ingham, or attended Electronics School in Govenors Isl.
N.Y., with Greg, you'll always remember his quick wit, his passion for public service, and his
scruffy beard.
He was a member of the Ingham Assoc, and the Tin Can Sailors Assoc. He was an avid reader and
amateur military historian. I will miss swapping books and magazines with him immensely. Friends
don't come easy and they go harder and harder as we get older.
Sincerely,
Terrence M. Wright
