Lloyd E. Allen

ALLEN, Lloyd E. - Our beloved husband and father left this earth while surrounded by his loving family on Feb. 4, 2004. He is survived by his adoring wife of 45 years Patsy Bledsoe-Allen; devoted daughters Becky Allen and Lisa Allen-Horton; beloved son-in-law Dave Horton; precious grandsons Russell and Matthew Horton; loving sister Beverly Allen-Hollomon; cherished nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends. Age 85 years young. Lloyd was born in San Francisco on Sept. 17, 1918 to William E. Allen and Anna Pauline Huber-Allen and grew up in San Mateo. He was a graduate of San Mateo High School, San Mateo Junior College, and the University of Washington. During his time at San Mateo J.C., he was very involved as a leader in a local YMCA group known as the Friendly Indians. From that experience Lloyd received the nickname, 'Big Chief' which he would proudly carry for the rest of his life. After graduating from college he served in the Coast Guard Reserves during World War II while also working at the Todd Pacific Shipyards in Tacoma. Following the war, Lloyd returned to the Bay Area and spent the majority of his distinguished career at Bechtel Corporation in S.F. in the Mining and Metals Division. He was also a member of the American Institute of Mining, Metallurgical and Petroleum Engineers. He retired in 1983. He will be sorely missed but lovingly remembered. Friends may join us in a celebration of his life on Feb. 14 at 2:00 at the Crystal Springs United Methodist Church, 2145 Bunker Hill Dr., San Mateo.
