Ahoy! It is Week Five and ...
Tuesday was a national holiday for Veteran's Day in the Republic
of Korea, giving crew members the opportunity to explore Busan during
liberty. Our hosts provided a city and suburb tour of Busan featuring a
stop at an ancient Korean Buddhist temple. Other crew members took
advantage of the excellent shopping opportunities in Busan including
the Nampo-Dong International Marketplace, rivaling those in Seoul,
Shanghai and Tokyo.
Wednesday followed with RUSH hosting a luncheon onboard to
guests from the participating ships. Rear Admiral Brice-O'Hara hosted
the reception which featured fine cuisine and decadent desserts from
our award-winning Food Service Division and Hawaiian entertainment
by BM2 Joshua Tobosa, MK2 Amalei Ulechong and OS1 Peni Motu
including an ukulele instrumental and traditional hula. RUSH presented
delegation members with personalized plaques from the Commanding
Officer to commemorate our partnership in the North Pacific Coast
Guard Forum.
After a well-favored stay in South Korea, it was time to get back
underway to complete the underway portion of the exercise to include a
Parade of Ships and mock distress scenario. Team RUSH represented
the U.S. Coast Guard well through its contributions in towing a
distressed vessel. The Deck Division did a superb job in accurately
rigging a towline to another vessel as the RUSH Boarding Team
demonstrated on-scene procedures on board the distressed vessel. This
capped off an overall successful port visit in support of the North Pacific
Coast Guard Forum and allowed Team RUSH to extend it's excellence
on yet another platform.
