Catchin' Up

Promotions!!!-On November 23rd, Ensigns Devin Pomranky, Daniel Delgado, Laun Clark, and Matthew Saldivar shed their gold bars in exchange for a set of sliver Lieutenant Junior Grade bars. The four were presented with their new devices at quarters. Congratulations!

Football: If you can't watch it, Play it!--During a recent port call, CGC NORTHLAND was challenged by another Coast Guard unit to a game of flag football. At the end of the day, the other unit could not keep up with the NORTHLAND, who ultimately came out on top, winning the match. Good job everyone!

Wardroom Sub Night- Members of the command gathered last week to host sub sandwich night for the crew, with CO selecting some kickin' music, and MPA CWO Cline and LTjg Pomranky washing dishes. CWO Filipiak, ENS Staley, and LT Porta put together the sandwiches.

Flight Ops-NORTHLAND bid farewell to their aviation detachment, but only after conducting many successful flight operations with the helicopter. The operations allowed some of the crew members to become qualified in additional billets.

Ships Party/Volleyball-Thanks to the hard work of ENS England and others, the crew held a ships party on the beach during the port call. The event included great food, swimming, and lots of beach volleyball.

Thanksgiving Northland Style-The FS division put on quite a show on Thursday, celebrating the holiday with more food than the crew could have ever imagined. Between the sweet potatoes, stuffing, and wide variety of pies, (and everything else in between!) plates were piled high, and no one left the table hungry. After dinner, the ship's Human Relations counsel also put on "being thankful" skit, which provided much entertainment for the crew!

Deck Department Pizza - On Saturday night, the Deck Department cooked and served specialty pizzas to the crew for dinner. The evolution included lots of music, decorations, and smiles all around. Thanks, Deck Department!

.... More next week!
