Catchin' Up
On Friday, NORTHLAND waved goodbye yet again to loved ones on the shore as they departed on a routine patrol southbound. Spending only one month in port, the crew worked rigorously to perform necessary shipboard maintenance to get the ship back in top condition to return to sea.
A helping hand--- Sailing with NORTHLAND this patrol is LT Paula Smith from the Coast Guard Auxiliary. LT Smith has continually volunteered her time and services to many various Coast Guard units, including sailing with the tall ship EAGLE. While onboard, she will be helping ease the duty rotation of the quartermaster of the watch (QMOW) billet on the bridge. Thanks, and Welcome Aboard Mrs. Smith!
An Eye in the Sky--- Upon departing Portsmouth, NORTHLAND underwent a variety of tests for Helicopter Standardization which included training, as well as a number of written tests as well as conducting flight evolutions with a CG HH65 aircraft. The crew excelled in the tasks completed, and looks forward to using the valuable experience in future flight evolutions.
Promotions--- On November 1, petty officers Carlos Montejano (BM) and Kandra Lopez (OS) celebrated their promotions to the next rank. The two were recognized at quarters, and presented with new collar insignia in front of the crew. Congratulations BM1 and OS2!
