Catchin' Up
Today marked the completion of UNITAS Forty-Nine. CGC NORTHLAND, along with the U.S. Navy, Argentinean Navy, and Brazilian Navy paraded along the Rio de Janeiro coastline to conclude this year’s UNITAS patrol. Although the week was packed with challenging events the NORTHLAND crew performance superbly with every department working together to accomplish the exercise objectives. NORTHLAND was instrumental in all maritime interception operations acting as the expert in the field. Many lessons were learned over the eight day period including ship handling for the OODs and Conning Officers, Tactical Signals for the Operations Department, and Refueling at Sea for the Deck Department. The Engineering Department also had their hands full with generator repairs. It was an exhausting eight days for the entire crew, but fun and fulfilling none the less. NORTHLAND also had the opportunity to exchange crew members with partner Navies. ENS Delgado spent eight days onboard the ANS Greenhalgh, an Argentinean ship. He experience firsthand the customs, traditions, and way of life of our partner navy. UNITAS and Rio de Janeiro was a memorable experience for the crew of CGC NORTHLAND. Check back next week for an update from the crew of CGC NORTHLAND, doing the nations business in the South Atlantic.
