Catchin' Up
The morale going into the fourth week was high. It has been an exciting and cheerful week for NORTHLAND and her crew. The atmosphere around the boat is festive with the holidays. Some of the crew took the opportunity to put their own holiday touch on the mess deck, from stockings for each crewmember to lights and a tree. After all the decorating was completed we enjoyed the nightly movie provided by ET1 Medalis.
Also this week the crew had the opportunity to cast out fishing lines with the hopes of reeling in a fish. Many of the crew members could be seen out on the packed fantail, rods and reels in hand. The sun was bright, the seas were calm, and hopes were high for that big one. Many hours were spent out on the fantail awaiting the big catch. MK1Calhoun managed to bring a fish onboard (fish was later released). OS1 Herman also had a bite, but no luck when trying to reel it in. It was a relaxing time for the crew, smiles were big and bright.
Although we did have time for a fish call, the week was busy with drills in preparation for tailored annual cutter training (TACT). We are performing superbly, but practice makes perfect and that is what NORTHLAND strives for.
Happy Holidays from the crew of USCGC NORTHLAND.
