Catchin' Up

USCGC NORTHLAND is underway as before in the North Atlantic protecting America’s living marine resources. This week was exciting as usual. NORTHLAND conducted boarding operations on vessels in the Atlantic, providing them with valuable safety information. The crew also participated in another small arms exercise in which crew members shot the M-16 assault rifle. The excitement could be seen on the face of every crewmember. Thanks to the Gunner’s Mates for putting on another successful event.

NORTHLAND had the opportunity to traverse the Cape Cod Canal. This transit provided the bridge team with chance to sharpen their navigation skills. ENS Potter maneuvered the ship superbly on the opening leg of the canal, with ENS Hitzel relieving midway to finish strong. All aspects of the shipboard team were functioning top notch. The narrow canal with strong currents was challenging, but the NORTHLAND crew performed excellently.

The week finished up with the wardroom hosting pizza night. LT Porta and ENS Hitzel stole the show with their Flaming Hawaiian pizza. As expected the new ensigns, ENS Delgado and ENS Clark, provided the mess cooking duties, with a little help from our shipmate, SN Wiencek.

NORTHLAND is looking forward to next week’s adventure in the North Atlantic.
