Catchin' Up

Once again NORTHLAND is conducting several different evolutions throughout the week, which makes the patrol go by extremely fast. Another thing that makes the patrol go by fast is a bit of time off in a port call.

We began this weekend with a port call which was enjoyed by everyone. The port call was used for various activities such as relaxing, shopping, catching up on work, dining at restaurants, working out and going out on the town.

We kicked off the work week with a gun shoot using the weapons that we are equipped with onboard NORTHLAND. This also incorporated a General Quarters Condition I drill for all personnel. Our bridge team and anchoring crew are getting an enormous amount of practice since we anchored again this week, overnight. While at anchor we ran a man overboard drill with a small boat recovery. We also conducted a steering casualty drill.

On St. Patrick’s Day, we happened to be anchored close enough to land so that we were able to launch the OTH to pick up pizza from land, using morale money. The same night, we held a cigar social on the flight deck for all who were interested.

Recent qualifications onboard include BM2 Maddox as OTH Coxswain, MK2 Matthews as boat engineer and BM1 Frantzich and ENS Cheney as underway Officers of the Deck (OOD). Congratulations to them and good luck to all others pursuing qualifications!
