Catchin' Up
NORTHLAND is happy to finally be home! This past week the crew had to stay focused on the mission and safety of the cutter and not be distracted about thoughts of returning.
One evening this past week, a pyro-shoot was conducted off the flight deck for all newly reported personnel and boat crew members. Several different types of flares were shot off for everyone to gain experience and be trained in their usage.
Following the New Year, OS2 Golphin was promoted to OS1. Congrats to him! Several other awards were given as well, upon completing our patrol. EM3 Simpson earned his temporary cuttermen’s pin. He also reached 12 months of sea time aboard the NORTHLAND along with ENS Burgwyn and SN Demetrius. OS3 Day earned the Good Conduct Award and ribbon.
SN Wiencek, SNSK Perkins and GM3 Knudsen, a TAD member, all received Letters of Commendation for their hard work, while onboard the cutter. This award enables them to wear the Commendation ribbon with their uniforms. ENS Moffatt and DC3 Rivera received Letters of Appreciation for helping as TAD members during the patrol. SN Demetrius received Non-Rate of the Patrol for all his efforts and assistance in the Deck Department.
A big congratulation goes to EM1 Langdon for receiving Sailor of the Quarter, an award given out to a member who greatly contributes to the operation of the cutter and goes above and beyond. His efforts were well recognized throughout the ship and he is very worthy of this award.
Morale didn’t stop this last week of the patrol! We held a “Biggest Loser” Competition, the winner being the members who lost the most in inches this patrol. First place went to SN Wiencek and 2nd place went to SK3 Wangler. They both won gift cards to Dick’s Sporting Goods.
During the patrol, NORTHLAND combined forces with other agencies and nations to combat and interdict narcoterrorism organizations resulting in the disruption of 922 pounds of cocaine valued at $12 million and $5.7 million of currency.
NORTHLAND is thankful to be home and with their loved ones after being away for the holidays and is pleased with the completion of the patrol.
