Catchin' Up

Week 11

The crew of the Coast Guard Cutter Mohawk completed their law enforcement operations, successfully stopping two fishing vessels transporting cocaine. The two vessels were then handed over to the Honduran government for further prosecution. One of the fishing vessel crews along with 1,000 kilograms of cocaine were transferred to the CGC Seneca, homeported in Boston, Mass.

The crew celebrated this week with a swim call. They enjoyed jumping from the flight deck and the bridge wing as a few crewmembers stood shark watch. There was also an inflatable trampoline set up next to the cutter that brought much of the crew hours of enjoyment.

In addition to the morale events, there were a few drills this week. The crew practiced a collision at sea and had a mock flood in the dry stores space. They also had a 50 cal. machine gun shoot, in which crewmembers sank multiple orange drums.

With the completion of the drug cases and Key West, Fla., just ahead on the horizon the crew feels a sense of completion. They know that soon they will see their friends and loved ones and that the 80 days they have spent away from home has made a difference.
